      Gdynia Match Race

      Picture
The SLAM Kiwi Match team have re-grouped in Poland this time, for the next regatta of their European tour. The team flew into Gdansk and then caught a train to the city of Gdynia, nestled on the South side of the Baltic Sea. The Gdynia Match Race is the second event on the Polish Match Race Tour and has once again assembled a competitive international field.

The regatta will be sailed on a 3 man boat so the Kiwi Match team of Laurie Jury, Logan Fraser and Mike Edmonds have come in for this event. The boats for this regatta are a little different to what we have been sailing on recently so might take a little getting use to before we are really at 100%. The design is quite unique and known as a Skippi 650; it utilises a prod and genneker as opposed to the traditional symmetrical spinnaker and pole and also quite wide for it's relatively short length.

Our regatta training day is today with racing starting tomorrow and continuing through to the weekend. The format is for a single round robin with the winner of the round robin proceeding straight through to the semi finals. The remaining top 6 qualifiers will then do a reduced quarter  finals to find the remaining semi finalists, with semi finals and finals taking place on Saturday 24th.

The  Gdynia Match Race is Act II of the ever popular Polish Match Race Tour which is the first and biggest match racing tour in Poland. The Polish Match Race Tour organise and run different events right around Poland and provide the same boats, and level of organisation at each event. Once again they have bought together an international field to Gdynia with teams competing from Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Australia and of course New Zealand.

As always thanks to SLAM for their support and all our friends and families for sticking by us. Updates, as always will be on the webso stay tuned as we try to lift our game here in Poland.
